Here's a video that I recorded to show you how to embed a video on your blog.

How's is this helpful? Well, many product owners post videos that you can grab and embed on YOUR blog. And, then stick your affiliate link under them.

Or, you can record your own and then embed them to play on your blog.

Easy peasy blog content.

Hope you like it!

Hi Nicole,

Great little tutorial. I think it needs alittle updating or I am skipping a step. I just hit the share button, then the embed button which then gives you the code. But whatever gets the end result, right? lol. I was more interested in learning more on how to use an affiliate link with a youtube video. I know I can just place a link under the video but do you have any tricks that you use when you do that?

Thanks

Yep. I can usually get them to click in one of a few ways:

1. tie in some curiosity
2. include a call-to-action
3. offer a bonus of some sort

Of course, just putting an arrow and saying "click here for next step" type of wording can work, too. :)

Hope that helps!

Watch out, Shawn!

The current embed code that you are given from YouTube (an iframe block) gets eaten by Wordpress' WYSIWYG editor. So you either have to use the "old embed code" option or use an iframe plugin in WordPress.

The video that Nicole shows above was created before the option of old embed code was put in, but it shows the correct <object...> code. However, this is a Flash code. So you should also include a link to the YouTube video for iPhones/iPad users.

If you use the Embed Iframe plugin (highly recommended), and paste the embed code that YouTube now gives as a default, you get a mobile friendly version automatically. The code has to be edited, and will look like this as a shortcode in your blog post:

[iframe http://www.youtube.com/embed/axrqWvQHArk?rel=0 (http://youtu.be/axrqWvQHArk) 560 315]

The red part is the video ID, and the two numbers are the height and width.

Could you explain why you use this method, instead of the shortcode method?

lol, Scott. Well, heck. That works, too. :)

I'll update my blog post with that info. What's your link so I can credit you for finding it for me?

Thanks!

Ok Bob, I went and installed & activated the plugin. Is that all I have to do for it to work? It had this little message for me, The tag to insert the code is: [iframe url width height].

You know me... I love cool gadgets. So if you want to get a little fancier with your YouTube videos, check out Traffic Player Pro which comes with some cool skins. I've also used the Artiss YouTube free plugin which makes it easy to customize the look of the YouTube player.

That question is tougher than it should be.

I've been using the shortcode on my WP ".com" blog via ScottJSmith.com, but it's not something I plan to leverage as an affiliate site...even though there are a couple affiliate links here and there.

I'll probably eventually transition YourWebMage.com from the embarrassingly junky, clunky SharePoint site it is now to an affiliate site focused on leveraging digital media for small businesses and non-profits, but I'm currently focusing my efforts helping Layla get her eight niche sites up and running, including FoxyGreenMama.com.

Of course, you could always say "fellow NAMSter" and use this link, but that might affect your personal stats: http://mynams.com/amember/go.php?r=1303&i=l9

Just a heads up that Wordpress.com used to prohibit affiliate links in their terms of service. I haven't looked at it recently, but I don't think that has changed. Another reason to have your own site.

Thanks for the head's up. They imported my blog from another service that went defunct, which contained a hand-ful of affiliate links. My goal is to host my own blog. Basically, one might slip into the body of a blog entry every 2-3 months, if I happen to discuss a product or service I have a code for. It's not a regular thing in that particular blog, nor are there any affiliate codes in any of the sidebar content...but I'll be cautious moving forward (until it's all on my own property).
