    Default LastPass on iPhone...feedback?

I've used LastPass for a while now, and after Regina's awesome session on security I think I'm going to upgrade to LastPass Premium ...mainly because I'd like to use it on my iPhone.

I do try to read and research before I jump into anything, though. The iPhone app sounds confusing. It doesn't seem to work in Safari? Does that mean the app has its own browser? Does LastPass for iPhone work on app passwords/logins?...like for the Facebook app or Skype?

    Hi Sherry -

WARNING! This reply is not going to help you very much

I use RoboForm and not LastPass. I use RoboForm on my Mac and on my PC. I also have all the data on my thumbdrive so I can access it anywhere. There is also an app for it on my iPhone that I use.

I was going to switch over to LastPass when Regina suggested it, however, I have too many passwords that I want to migrate over

i thought the main advantage of LastPass was the ability to create a one-time password to share with someone. This is not something that I would need.

I am interested in how things turn out for you, so when you do get a valuable post to your question, I will be reading along!

    Thanks.
    Be Well.
    Paul.

Regarding Lastpass. I am looking for a way to share certain passwords with an assistant and I'm not clear on how to do it. From what I learned from Regina at NAMS7 she showed a way to share an individual password for 1 account. I have multiple accounts and it would be way to time consuming to go in and share the password for each individual account. Are there any lastpass users in the forum that can guide me to a tutorial or clear information on how to share multiple passwords on certain accounts in lastpass?

I know Regina loves LastPass - we've discussed this many times... But I, like Paul Taubman (that is your name, right?), use Roboform specifically because it's so easy to use on my iPhone. And I swear by the Robo Online Everywhere version... always in sync on all devices.

As for sharing with an assistant, I found out accidentally that I can share my entire roboform with her by synching her roboform to my everywhere account. But of course, i didn't want that. Roboform does have a version called enterprise which is user seat based (buy the number of licenses you need)... So, you can share with Roboform only that way.

And we have a really good Roboform tutorial here

    Hi Sherry,

I'm a droid user, but did look at the FAQ section for lastpass regarding iPhones.

    https://lastpass.com/support.php?cmd...=mobile_iphone

As far as Safari goes on your iPhone, looks like you need to install bookmarklets:

    https://lastpass.com/support.php?cmd=showfaq&id=2423

On my Samsung phone I use the copy/paste feature by logging into lastpass for apps like Facebook, Twitter, etc.

The three reasons I use LastPass:
    1. Share passwords securely (from one account at a time) and track user usage (premium only)
    2. One time passwords (like when I go to NAMS)
    3. Easily manage all my passwords in one place.

As David said, Roboform has an enterprise edition that you can use to share passwords, but it's pricey.

    1 license is $4990.00 ouch!

Would love to have an affiliate commission on that one

Yikes! I think I'll stick with LastPass. LOL I'll figure out the iPhone part. ...can't be that hard, right? :-)

I figured out the multiple site/password sharing stuff in LastPass that Tai was asking about. I've already emailed it to her, but I thought others might be interested, too. I put it on a blog post and linked to a pdf version of the steps and screenshots so it's a little easier to read...

I don't mean to revive a thread from the dead buuuuuut....

Using any "secure" password app on an iPhone is a little redundant. The autofill in safari works fantastically and the iPhone in general is about as secure as a device can get. Because Apple restricts the iPhone so heavily there is literally nothing that can monitor/infect/or bug your iPhone. Androids, however, are a very different beast all together and I would recommend using something like lastpass on your droid.

Regina may kill me for this post but I use safaris autofill and have never had issues and it works seamlessly.

    Hey Kyle,

As far as "secure" password apps on an iPhone, I personally use a droid so not sure how it works firsthand. However, if you're using Skype on your iPhone you need to log-in and if you have the lastpass app then you can copy your password over since it's safely stored in your vault. Same goes for a Facebook app, Twitter app, etc. (apps outside the use of a browser). How are you saving your log-in data for apps on your iPhone?

As far as relying on saved passwords in Safari, yikes! Suppose you're at the local bookstore, you get up to get another latte, you come back to your table and your iPhone is gone. You're flying to NAMS and you check-in your MacBook and it got put on the wrong flight and it's on it's way to Russia. Then it gets in the wrong hands and they install a nasty hacker tool (i.e. ShowPass Safari extension, Safari Password Recorder).

With LastPass you can log-out, but can you with Safari? Nothing is fool-proof, but we can take some extra measures to secure things better. What happens if you turn off your Mac firewall and forget to turn it back on? As far as penetration, I know that Apple products are harder to crack, but it does happen (hence the Safari security patch in 5/2012).

One last note: Do a Google search on steal safari passwords and safari autofill security hole < scary stuff.

I didn't kill ya Kyle, let's just call it putting you over my knee

The stolen iPhone thing is a good point. Now I was talking strictly about the iPhone. I do use lastpass on my mac and would recommend it to anyone. As far as apps go I never have to re-login to my apps. All of the data is stored in the app and it auto logs me in when I go to use it. As far as on the iPhone, Safari will not install any extensions what so ever. The only way I have seen extensions installed on the iPhone is via Jailbreak and that is a whole security risk in itself.

Also from what I have seen with my own phone, customers phones, and a few google searches, there is no way I know of that allows you to view saved passwords or autofill data on the iPhone.

The safari on a Mac is actually quite a bit different from the safari on an iPhone.

Admittedly my iPhone is jailbroken so I do use 1password to store my web based passwords but I honestly don't do much log in based web browsing on my phone. Almost everything I do I can access from an app.

FYI...since I started the thread, I did go premium with LastPass. (I figured it was only fair to pay such a minimal price for a product I've used and enjoyed so much.).

SO, I did get the LastPass app for iPhone and iPad. It's certainly not as integrated to web sites as the PC version, but I've already found it incredibly useful while mobile.
Thanks ruchita8 thanked for this post
