Camtasia and audio transcription - gurus know?

Does anyone know if Camtasia has a feature built in to transcribe the audio track to a text file?...or if there is a way to export the audio track as an mp3 so Dragon Naturally Speaking can transcribe it to text?

I'm using Camtasia to create video lessons with screenshots/screenvids and a tiny talking head on the bottom corner (Picture In Picture), so students can see the screen where most of the action is and can still see my face to catch the visual expressions I make as I talk them through the lesson.

It's working great. The problem is that I need a text version of what I say on the video so the text AND the video can be placed in the same post.

One of your choices when producing the video is to create an mp3 - I've done it.

But I often find it simpler to take the finished mp4 and run it through IMTOO conversion tool. I love that tool - its simple and easy.

Let us know how the text conversion works with dragon naturally. Interested.

I've found that Dragon does a pretty good job of getting most of the words right but then it takes a bunch of time to format the words and correct the things that are wrong. This is one area I find is easy to outsource.

Thanks, all. I didn't know there were so many export features in Camtasia. I ordered Dragon Naturally, so I have several files to try when it arrives. I'll let you know how the results look.

Okay. So, I received Dragon Naturally Speaking and installed it today. I couldn't wait to do the first test for transcribing an MP3 to text. I did the initial "training," but I think it's still going to take a little effort before it catches on to the southern drawl.

Here's what I got from the first test.

I'd already exported the MP3 from a 3 minute camtasia video I did as a welcome message.

The transcription in DNS took less than 2 minutes...about 550 words +/-

It took me about 25 minutes to play, pause, correct, and add syntax to the transcription of the three minute video.

Considering that I'm not an especially fast typist, and the raw transcription took less than two minutes, this first test seems pretty decent.

PS - I have links to the video, txt of the raw transcription, and a docx of the revised transcription if anyone wants to see them. If you send me a private message, I'll try to figure out how to reply with the links. I'm still kind of new here, so I'm a little cautious about spamming the thread with links.

Ok. I give. :-). Dragon's fine for short transcriptions...easy enough to fix and polish, but 10-15 minutes of southern is just too much for it.

Anyone have any referrals for outsourcing transcriptions?

I just had a whole bunch of videos transcribed by Paul Klein and his crew, at http://www.InternetTranscribers.com I just sent the MP4 vids over and in a few days they transcribed 20 videos for me. Haven't gone over all the text yet, but looks very good.
