Default Spam activity is on the rise?

    Have you noticed it?

My e-mail has been inundated and they've finally found my wife's as well. She was shocked to see that she had about 30 spam messages today. Then I showed her my junk folder with 100s just from today.

The reason I'm bringing this up is that we're seeing more spam against the forum too.

Only one or two have made it through to public posts, in the past two days I've deleted about 30-40 posts held in moderation. Yahoo! It's working.

Please be vigilant. We want this community to be very helpful, so if something slips through, use the little yield sign icon with ! in it at the bottom of the post to report it. We'll get it out.

    Thanks as always...

For my email I am so thankful every day for Outlook rules and the "empty junk folder when exiting Outlook" option. So much I never have to see.

However, some still gets through that layer too. I've noticed that the new group for me many are You Tube notices.

I just keep refining my rules to try and keep up.

Thanks so much... We may have to institute the question / answer and recaptcha registration so they don't even get in the front door somehow... It's tricky. I don't want to make it too hard, but want to protect everyone here.

Unfortunately, I've found outook rules to be way inadequate. Or maybe I just don't use it right, but I still catch most of it like you and delete on exit. Of course, if legitimate mail goes to the junk, I've lost it... so, I try to scan frequently. That's why I like my support desk. We always get those notices...

Interesting. I find them the opposite. They do so much I get lost in the options (too much thinking again). In fact occasionally I'll try to see a reason to try a particular option just for grins. This is a variation of the shiny object syndrome I suppose. That and I'm wildly ADD.

I use them to flush the junk, to move messages to staging folders for later processing, forwarding to other people when needed, and, as Jim Edwards says all the time, much, much more.

As an example, I get all of the notices for our cell bill and our cable bill. I forward them to my wife and file them in a folder with a reminder for a couple weeks out. She gets the note and I get reminder before they are due. I clean the folder out once or twice a year. No muss, no fuss. I also added an exception clause so if the email is not the bill, but say a notice that I'm about to exceed my 4g usage then that stays in my inbox.

For spam, I also set my junk setting to pass only what is in my white list. Once I see it is legitimate I mark it accordingly and no more junk status.

The only issue I consistently seem to have is that there is some problems in the detection of text strings at times. I don;t know if it is an issue in the email coding (like bogus links mascara ding as real ones), but usually I can sniff out the cause and tweak the rule to work.

I have been using GoogleApps for several years now and never notice spam increase it really is quite good. False positives? Yes and no it does consider some things spam that I don't but it's easy to understand why because I know some of the mailers and they often mail out from their own servers as opposed to a third party service like Aweber.

People who use those types of bulk email setup will often get flagged but not 100% of the time so really I don't miss much at all. I may miss commercial emails but so far not a direct correspondence.

It always amazes me how much spam there is when I do foray into the spam folder 10's 20's like David says here within minutes, many are the same copies over and over.

Before switching to G Apps, I used to use Mail Washer to help me filter out junk at the server level before downloading them to Thunderbird that actually worked well for me since it will help protect me from downloading emails with malicious nasty ware & keep spam out.

My spam within my personal email accounts continues to increase, but I still scan it to find any legitimate emails that go there. I'm wondering how this begins. I do not have my email address on any of my sites (a sure way to get picked up by the bad guys) and I am so careful when I give it out to anyone.
