Need a little assistance with WordPress Static page.

I feel like I missed something. I took Paul's WP training, but still seem confused between a Post and a Page. I set up a Page and it presents as a post with the comments section on the bottom. How do I just get a static page with no blog like information on the page? Thanks for help and patience. Maureen

You can turn comment of on any page or post, there's a spot to control that below your visual editor. (Uncheck allow comments and pingbacks) If you don't see a place to control it, look up at the top of your screen for 'screen options' and check the 'discussions' box, then look for it below again.

Both posts and pages allow comments.

If you want, you can disable comments on posts for the entire site or post by post.

For pages you need to disable them page by page on the edit page or via the quick-edit link on the page list.

Post comments can be disabled for the entire site by going to the "settings/discussion" menu item - hover over settings and then click on discussion link. Once on the settings page the "Allow people to post comments" checkbox can be turned off to disable all comments.

If you don't want comments for a specific post then it is like a page - on the edit page or via the quick edit on the post list.

Hi,

To set your static page, on the left hand side of your dashboard, go to settings then to reading then to Reading Settings, then you will see Front page displays, click the radio button for A static page (select below) from the drop down box to pick the page you want to display when a person comes to your blog.

Hope this is clear enough. When you get to the reading settings I think this will make sense to you.

Thank you for your help. I did what you said and yet a bigger box asking for comments appears at the bottom. I struggle with my lack of techie skills which is why I thought WordPress would fit me.

Thank you for information. I was able to find what you suggested and yet the comment box remains. Anyother ideas. I made the page a static page hoping that would discourage the WordPress program from putting a box at the bottom.

If you could help me a just little bit more. I went back to the sight, doubled check to make sure that unchecked the right box, then saved and logged out. I went to the sight and the LEAVE A REPLY box with 3 to 4 places to leave information was still there.
The LEAVE A PEPLY box is what I am tring to disable. Did I ask the question right?

Maureen -- If it is Today's Thoughts that you want to remove the Reply Box:

1. Go to the page editor for Today's Thoughts
2. At the top right click on Screen Options
3. Make sure "Discussion" is checked
4. Scroll down to the Discussion section
5. Uncheck the Comments and Trackback/Pingback boxes.
6. Click the update button
